♡ A New Chapter ♡
Good day, wonderful one, and bright solstice wishes!
Here we are on the 21-12-2021 of the earth’s timeline, and what magical numbers to celebrate the birth of something new and to remind us that we are so much more than the stories playing out on the stage of life’s theatre.
After hurtling at warp speed towards year's end, I'm taking this moment to put the world on pause. Would you like to join me? Yes? Wonderful! Make yourself a cup of your favourite brew (mine is Jasmine Green Tea). Find a quiet spot where you have a view of the sky. If you're in my part of the shire, you might wish to cosy up in a blanket with a hot water bottle to keep the creeping cold at bay. Get comfortable, and bring your awareness to your biological vehicle (body), and release any tension in your muscles. Breathe and relax. Take a sip of tea, and gaze at the sky. Allow the mind's noisy chatter to fade as the day's tension slips away, and observe how there is now space to dream. The sky is your canvas. What picture are you manifesting? What do you see? How do you feel? Take another sip of tea. Breathe and relax. Let your imagination wander freely. Where are your dreams taking you? Let the light pour into your body and soul, and fill you with joy, ease and vitality. Feel your spirit lift like a bird in flight. Know that you are that free bird, singing your bright song in this one sweet moment. Breathe and relax. Finish your tea. Notice how everything feels different - somewhat lighter - as you bring your attention back to where you are right now. Are you feeling the light that’s shining within the wonderful being that you are? Focus on carrying this bright energy as you continue on your day’s travels...
For the past few weeks, Mr Fen and I have been preparing for our move to a new base-camp. This involved closing a page in our lives and opening a new chapter while giving thanks for the three + years we've spent at the cottage in rural West Lancashire. Although we have been given an open invitation to return to the farm and to walk freely here whenever we wish, I felt a deeper presence on my last few pre-move walks... the kind of heightened awareness that one can feel when you know that this might be the last opportunity to savour every detail, every moment, every single feeling before embracing change. I walked, as I usually do, with profound gratitude for the wonderful encounters we've had with the wild creatures and the unseen here.
As I walked, I was reminded that...
+ when we are present, we are able to see far more than we imagined.
+ the light always finds its way in no matter how gloomy it might seem.
+ Life passes in a blink of an eye. It's to be enjoyed not just endured.
After a storm, which knocked out the electrics for 20 hours, a heavy frost turned the landscape white. I couldn't resist an early morning walk, accompanied by a raucous of cawing crows.
The air was so still and tantalising as I made my way to seven acre wood, and the sun brought much needed light through this young treescape.
I gave thanks to the trees, the birds and every living thing, and I left offerings in the way of organic seeds.
I found this lone sheep in the woods. She had obviously decided to go on a little adventure and seemed somewhat bemused to have escaped. Sometimes, it’s good to be away from the flock and find your own space to breathe and simply be. Clever sheep!
Right up to our move, the tawny owls were extra vocal, serenading us relentlessly from dusk until dawn. So magical! And on the last day of the move, a robin flew inside the car and perched on my seat, and seemed to have many messages to share: 'Farewell and happy travels!'... 'Stay free!'...'Don't forget me!'
After a busy week of moving our bits of furniture and sparse belongings, we are now easing into our new tiny home back in my home town south of the River Ribble. It's unlikely we'll hear the tawny owls here nor experience the kind of rural peace that has been our retreat from the world but our new base-camp overlooks a green and a weeping willow tree, and there are two country parks not far away. I know I'm here with a sense of renewed purpose, ready to engage on the next part of my journey.
The year 2022 already feels like it will be an extra special year in the inner and outer realms, and beyond. It's also full of significance for me. Not only does it mark twenty years of travelling the earth journey with Mr Fen, it's also ten years since Light Weaver was published. Even now, Tom and Cali's extraordinary story, set in the English Lake District, is finding new readers as well as reigniting a flame in those who first read the book all those years ago. It seems like 2022 may well be the perfect year to push onwards with creating new stories.
And there is a novel I've yet to complete that has its roots in sacred Lancashire, around the Beacon Fell and the Trough of Bowland where J. R. R. Tolkien was said to have gathered inspiration for The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
In early December, I returned to this treasured landscape to immerse myself in the magic of this spirited place and to allow inspiration to flood through my veins.
As I wandered and wondered, I became aware of a quickening within - the same feeling I had when I brought Light Weaver into this realm. I took that as a good sign.
I'll close this issue of The Lantern by wishing you a joyful winter solstice and the season's very best and brightest wishes. May this be a time of peace, love and goodwill to all beings, and may Yuletide bring you a warm hearth, good health, great happiness and an abundance of all you need to enjoy life’s merry dance.
Lots of love and bright sparkles,
